Tribute to Violet Ritis Tuite up published in b(OINK), August 4, 2017 — 2 Comments

  1. Meg, Thanks for this intense tribute to Mom! If that novel you are writing is anything like the passage you quoted, it will be amazing! The funny thing is, when I think of Mom what comes to mind are things and activities associated with her, like TV quiz shows, bowls of popcorn, and those cards & ashtrays & martini glasses we would find on the morning after one of her bridge parties. She was like the sun in the sense that she was so much a part of my life that I never looked directly at her as a person. When I read those memories of her by Ria and Anne Kavanaugh, who remember her as a friend of their mothers, it was like seeing her from a very different angle. It was only in her final years that I started to appreciate her for the woman that she was — erudite, opinionated, even quirky. It is only when the shadow of the moon covers the sun that you can look it directly. love, Kev
