  1. Meg, Thanks for this intense tribute to Mom! If that novel you are writing is anything like the passage you quoted, it will be amazing! The funny thing is, when I think of Mom what comes to mind are things and activities associated with her, like TV quiz shows, bowls of popcorn, and those cards & ashtrays & martini glasses we would find on the morning after one of her bridge parties. She was like the sun in the sense that she was so much a part of my life that I never looked directly at her as a person. When I read those memories of her by Ria and Anne Kavanaugh, who remember her as a friend of their mothers, it was like seeing her from a very different angle. It was only in her final years that I started to appreciate her for the woman that she was — erudite, opinionated, even quirky. It is only when the shadow of the moon covers the sun that you can look it directly. love, Kev
